FBA 2011 Winners Events

April 16, 2012

Hello Florida readers, writers, and book lovers from all over,

On behalf of everyone involved in the 2011 Florida Book Awards competition, we want to thank all of the authors who entered the competition and to send out a heartfelt congratulations to this year’s winners.

The Florida Book Awards not only honors the winning authors, but in turn these authors and their books honor the rich history and culture of the Sunshine State. We are incredibly thankful to be part of such a dynamic literary community and to host the nation’s most comprehensive book awards program.

The 6th Annual Florida Book Awards honored all medalists at the Governor’s Mansion this year on March 21. The First Lady of Florida, Mrs. Ann Scott, welcomed authors and presided over the afternoon festivities.

Lunch was served in the Mansion’s dining room, adjacent to the library where copies of Florida Book Award winning books were on display.

Later that evening we presented medals to the Gold medalists at the Florida Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Turnbull Conference Center.

Julia Zimmerman, Director of FSU Libraries announced our winners, who were photographed on stage with Secretary of State Ken Detzner.

A reception followed the ceremony, where our authors signed copies of their books for fans and friends.

Thank you to all of our authors who were able to attend either or both of these events–we were thrilled and honored to have you and look forward to celebrating with you at our next event.

The Florida Book Awards will be celebrating with all of our winning  authors April 19th at the Florida Library Association Annual Conference in Orlando, where we will present medals to our Silver and Bronze medalists at our annual banquet. The conference events will also include a panel discussion and book signing with winning authors. Please join us there!
